Our kickboxing gradings are an opportunity to demonstrate your progress, technique, discipline and confidence as you work towards your next belt.

What to Expect

Your grading will assess the techniques required for your current level and the belt you are working towards.


You can expect a mixture of:

  • Technical drills 
  • Punches, kicks and combinations 
  • Defensive movements 
  • Padwork 
  • Fitness drills 
  • Controlled sparring for higher levels where appropriate

Please bring:


  • Average Mo’s T-shirt 
  • Your current belt 
  • Boxing gloves 
  • Shin guards 
  • Mouthguard 
  • Water bottle 


Protective equipment is especially important for orange belt and above, where sparring may be included.

How to Prepare

To give yourself the best chance of grading successfully:


  • Attend classes consistently in the lead-up to grading 
  • Review the syllabus for your current and next level 
  • Practise your techniques at home 
  • Focus on form, control, power and confidence 
  • Speak to your coaches if you are unsure what is expected

Belt Syllabus

Please review the requirements for your current belt and the belt you are working towards. If you are unsure what will be assessed, speak to Mo or Baz before the grading day.

Stance

Attacks: Jab diagnostic (range), Cross, Front kicks

Defences: Lateral and vertical footwork, Parry, Head movement, and slipping.


Attacks: Hooks (short, medium, long), Round Kicks

Defences: Lateral and vertical footwork, Parry, Head movement


Attacks: Side kicks, Side kick with another kick, Uppercuts

Defence: Switch defence for kicks, Jamming shots


Attacks: Double up shots on one side (hands), Double up kicks then sweep, Back kick, Spinning backfist

Defence: Switch defence with kick counter, Switch defence with punch counter


Attacks: Spinning kick, Jumping back kick, Cross to body, Up jabs, Axe kicks, Instep sweep, Jab body

Defence: Switch step and walk off


Attacks: Kick touch round kick back kick, Kick touch side kick spinning kick, Kick touch round kick step through back kick, Kick touch side kick step through spinning kick, Left hook body, Overhand rights/left, Straights to the body, Back kick, Hook kick, Calf sweeps.


Attacks: Hooks to the body, Switch punches, Step through spinning hook kick, Tornado kick, Step through tornado, Chopping the back leg
